At Dr. Day Care, we know how important it is for children to have close links with their community. That’s why we feel it is important to support community businesses.
We believe in giving back to programs that benefit children of all ages in the communities where we work and play.

In addition to investing in our local communities, Mary Ann and her team believe it is important to give back to the community with our time.
Below are some examples of how the Dr. Day Care team shares our time and expertise to build our communities:
Dr. Day Care Founder Mary Ann Shallcross Smith is currently an Inspiring Minds Board Member, a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer, a Board Member on the Department of Health Rhode Island Social Work Board, and is a Mentor for a Community College of Rhode Island student.
She previously served as the President of Family Child Care Homes of Rhode Island and the President of Foster Forward.
Dr. Mary Ann was also previously an Executive Board Member of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce and continues to serve on the board.
In her home town of Lincoln, she served on the School Board and has been an Exhibition Judge and Child Development Guest Speaker at the Lincoln High School. She was also the PTO President of Saylesville Elementary. She taught CCD for 22 years at Saint Jude’s Church. Mary Ann also serves as a State Representative.
In the Town of Lincoln, Mary Ann was a Juvenile Hearing Board Member and was on the Lincoln Prevention Coalition.
For over 15 years, Dr. Day Care has presented scholarships to graduating seniors in our community. Students attending the following schools have received educational scholarships:

- North Smithfield School Department
- Pawtucket School Department
- Smithfield School Department
- South Kingstown High School
- West Warwick High School
- Woonsocket High School
Dr. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith wrote Edgar Graduates, an early childhood book that enhances a child’s vocabulary and the options available for continuing education.
